Child Abducton

Child Abduction

International child abduction is when a child is taken from Canada or kept outside Canada in breach of the rights of another person. These cases usually involve one parent or guardian taking a child from Canada in breach of the other parent’s rights.

In general, consular services and local police will be your first-point-of-contact in dealing with the matter. A lawyer can help you understand your rights as a parent and give you legal advice. Should the matter go to court, a lawyer can represent you and advocate for your parenting rights. A lawyer can also help you mediate with the other parent and draft an agreement over parenting arrangements and contact.
